More often than not, big ideas require funding. Businesses may raise money using traditional financial instruments or, alternatively, choose to seek help from a government. To help out with all the numerous steps and a certain level of bureaucratic hassle that businesses face when applying for government grants, CFA Association Russia invited Alexander Morozov, an expert in fund raising and business acceleration, to get into the details of government financing for businesses.

The event took place on March 22 in the format of CFA Russia’s business breakfast series at the Mazars Russia office and gathered over 30 participants.

Morozov, a managing partner of the Territoria business incubator, an organization that provides intellectual knowledge and helps with the management of new businesses, gave a long and detailed presentation on how to get a public funding for one’s business.

Seeking money from a government is not an easy task. It requires a great deal of planning, strategic thinking and steps taken in the right direction before businesses can get an approval from the government.

On a step-by-step basis, the speaker talked about everything that is needed to secure a funding. First things first, a team needs to come up with a solid investment strategy. Then, it’s important to make a list of and select both federal and regional governmental bodies that can give out grants and other monetary support.

When all of that is done, a long and dreary process of preparation begins, Morozov said. Everything is important at this stage, including the amount of current assets, professionalism of staff, ongoing changes in an industry and government financing documents.
