31 января 2017 г. The Russian stage of the 2016-2017 CFA Institute Research Challenge that kicked off last fall is close to the finish line. January 30 was the deadline for the final report submission and 17 teams managed to complete their work on time. To produce their final reports, students worked with their industry mentors, members of the Russian CFA community. Although the mentors, who are professionals in the financial sector, did not contribute any research or data to the reports, they helped students by providing valuable comments and reviewing their work prior to the submission date.
This year’s subject company, the Moscow Exchange (MoEx), is not an easy company to analyze and not all teams made it to the end. Out of 44 teams that registered for the competition last fall, 17 teams submitted their final reports yesterday. This goes to show that the CFA Institute Research Challenge is a tough competition and participants need to show not only their knowledge of a financial analysis, but also other valuable skills, such as determination, team work, and communication skills. Now the team of graders, volunteers from the Russian CFA community, will evaluate the reports. On February 24, the list of six finalists will be announced. These teams will be invited to take part in the finals of the Russian stage of the competition at the beginning of March. During the finals the participants are required to present their work in front of a group of judges and answer arising questions about their report.
CFA Association Russia thanks Wiley, our sponsor, as well as the Moscow Exchange, Thomson-Reuters and Kaplan Schweser, the companies that helped to put together the local stage of the 2016-2017 Research Challenge. The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a competition between university teams that research a designated publically traded company, prepare a written report on that company and then present their findings to a panel of judges. The competition has three levels: local, regional, and global. Winners at the local level advance to compete against teams within their geographic region at the regional level. Then, the winning teams at the regional level go on to compete at the global level until finally one team is declared a winner at the global level. ![]() |
