Recognizing the importance of having gender diversity in the finance profession and in business overall, CFA Association Russia held a joint evening workshop with EY Academy of Business focusing on how to improve the personal brand of women working in the corporate world.

The event was held on January 21 at EY Academy of Business and gathered around 20 participants. A speaker, Katerina Nazarova, one of EY’s coaches on emotional intelligence (EI), had an engaging conversation with the guests and shared some of her ideas on how to improve leadership skills and personal brand for women to better develop their careers.

When it comes to professional development, women face unique challenges, such as having to choose between children and career, juggling work-life balance, unequal pay and fewer opportunities in upper management. The latter, especially, goes hand in hand with an array of gender stereotypes, Katerina said.

Women are often seen as being overly emotional, not being natural leaders or interested in leading roles within companies, having certain professional preferences, among a list of other widespread biases, the speaker added.

These stereotypes are the burdens from the past and the society should learn to overcome them. Nonetheless, while this has not happened yet, Katerina suggested some advice for women on how to position themselves within a company, build a better personal brand and translate it to those around you to have a better career.

During the workshop, many guests shared their personal experiences at work and group discussions ensued. The event eventually turned into an engaging talk with participants contributing their thoughts and sharing ideas with the speaker. 

This was the first event in 2020. Over the next few months, CFA Russia and EY Academy of Business are planning to organize more soft-skills related workshops.
